Keiro and Friends Support So-Phis

We were thrilled to have some of our supporters and friends join Keiro staff Dianne Kujubu Belli and Audrey Lee-Sung at the So-Phis 58th  Annual Fashion Show, Luncheon & Boutique in Anaheim on Saturday, April 23. Keiro was pleased to support this fundraising event which benefits a number of charitable organizations in the community. (In 2014, So-Phis supported Keiro’s Women’s Wellness Conference “Reimagining Life: Empowering Women for Lifelong Vitality”)

In addition to enjoying lunch, shopping and a fun show of fashions, the mostly female attendees received a favor bag which included an info-card from Keiro highlighting the Unique Needs of Women Caregivers. According to the National Center on Caregiving, more than half of all caregivers are women. In LA and Orange Counties 25.3% of Japanese American adults 50 years and older are caregivers. Caregiver social support and relationships, including feeling connected or integrated with the community, have been found to improve physical and mental health, and reduce mortality.

Lynn Miyamoto who attended the So-Phis event with her sister-in- law, echoed that sentiment, sharing,“As a caregiver at times for my parents and a long distance caregiver for my in-laws, I have come to appreciate the importance of open communication and the connections between my siblings, brother and sister-in- laws and children. Our love and support of each other is what matters most to me.”

We appreciated the opportunity to get together, reconnect and enjoy an afternoon with friends and Keiro supporters. Our thanks to the ladies who joined us in Orange County for the event – many driving from the LA area and even Ventura County!

Going forward, Keiro provides services to older adults and caregivers, along with programs for residents of Keiro’s former facilities – helping older adults in Our Community realize the aging experience they desire.
