In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 12, 2016, about 40 members from the University of Southern California Asian Pacific Alumni Association (USC APAA) piled into their cars, which were loaded with good spirits and prizes, and headed to Boyle Heights to spend the morning with residents of facilities previously owned by Keiro. As part of USC’s annual Alumni Day of SCervice, these volunteers called out game after game of BINGO, as well as assisted those residents who could not hear the numbers being drawn, as the Hirata Hall of the Activity Center was filled with conversations and laughter. For those residents who did not want to leave their fortunes to a game of luck, volunteers also offered opportunities for residents to play board and card games.
While the actual event only lasted a couple of hours, residents left with various prizes donated by Keiro and USC APAA along with memories of a fun-filled morning. For those residents who have deep ties to UCLA, they were also able to take away a new found respect for their new USC friends!
This is the fourth year that Keiro has had the wonderful opportunity to organize and partner with the USC APAA to bring this great event to the residents in the facilities. Our thanks to Chantelle Takata and Grace Shiba from USC APAA who worked with Keiro’s staff to make this event happen.
Keiro looks forward to continuing our work supporting residents in the facilities and seniors within the community.
